You'll need a "boat" cup that gives you plenty of coverage, racquette ball glasses (NOT cut out - full plexiglass, fixed lenses - NOT inserts) that have a cushioned nose piece covering the nose, the bridge of the nose and eyebrow ridge and lacrosse elbow and lower arm protection. Use the lacrosse pads with football forearm protection for excellent coverage in knife and stick training where you are specificially targeting extremities. The cup can be further refined by covering the edges with either pipe insulation or bubble wrap. You wear the cup, without the supporter, under your jeans.

If you're training intensely - as you should - you will split fingertips, get lacerations, hyperextend fingers, tweak your knuckles, etc. The best stuff to go into your first aid kit is 3M Nexcare Skin Crack Care. It's kind of a skin superglue. Don't try to use it if you're bleeding, it won't work. The roll next to it is Co-Flex. A rubberized gauze that sticks to itself. It won't lose adhesion when exposed to water. If you have a cut or open wound, apply some Neosporin, affix a gauze pad then wrap with Co-Flex. You can also use it to bind a good finger and knuckle to a tweaked one. Make sure you don't wrap it too tightly. Save yourself some money, go to an equestrian or feed store (some pet stores) and buy it there. It's called Vet Wrap and is much cheaper than if you buy THE SAME THING (or close enough) in different packaging at a pharmacy. It's the same stuff trainers wrap horse joints with.
